The Route to Emancipation Screening
Join us for a screening of the film Route to Emancipation– a documentary about 3 Black cyclists who ride from Austin— the capital of Texas— to Galveston, TX where Juneteenth started, while exploring Black history in Texas and a connection to place within that context.
Film to start at 7pm, doors at 6:30. This event will be held in the Main St Landing Film House, on the third floor of the Lake & College building at 60 Lake Street Burlington, VT 05401.
After the film screening, we will be hosting a Q + A and social hour with Ariel Marlowe, one of the riders in the film and a founder of Black History Bike Ride. Ariel is an energetic & engaging speaker and brings a great message to this project. This will be a great opportunity to support Black storytelling in a place that can feel so far away from any of this history. Ariel is only in town for a few days, so we are excited to have this chance to share his message within our community and for Vermonters to get to have a conversation with him about founding Black History Bike Ride.
Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the door. Your ticket will grant you entrance, one raffle ticket, and access to the Q&A and social hour with Ariel. Light refreshments will be served during the social hour.
We are grateful to our sponsors to the event: Main St Landing, Old Spokes Home, Local Motion, Outdoor Gear Exchange, and the Vermont Professionals of Color Network.
We will be raffling off many prizes from these folks and other brand partners. If you would like to support this event with a donation of funds or raffle items, please reach out to sequoia@colorthevalley.com.
